Este siniestro dejó más de 2.900 viviendas destruidas, 12.500 personas damnificadas, 15 víctimas fatales y más de 500 heridos. Ha sido considerado como el mayor incendio urbano en la historia de Chile.
"Este dibujo combina historia, materialidad y representación para crear una obra que trasciende uno de los eventos más desastrosos de los últimos años en Chile. La representación del descontrolado incendio busca perpetuar la imagen viva y ardiente de este desastre como un llamado crítico a la atención sobre las condiciones de habitabilidad en entornos de riesgo y vulnerabilidad. El carboncillo utilizado en la obra, como materialidad expresiva, es también un vestigio resultante del proceso de quema y combustión. Así, la materialidad y la representación se fusionan como huella y cicatriz de un evento que no debe ser olvidado.
Esta obra recobra actualidad precisamente luego del reciente incendio de Viña del Mar, ocurrido el 22 de diciembre del 2022 en las cercanías de la Villa Nueva Esperanza, entre el aeródromo Rodelillo y Las Palmas, en el sector alto de la comuna de Viña del Mar, en Valparaíso. Una imagen abrumadora que se nos repite como sociedad chilena y que nos exige repensar nuestros vínculos eco-sociales, y exigir nuevos compromisos eco-políticos”.

"This drawing combines history, materiality, and representation to create a work that transcends one of the most disastrous events in recent years in Chile. The representation of the uncontrolled fire seeks to perpetuate the lively and fiery image of this disaster as a critical call for attention on habitability conditions in risky and vulnerable environments. The charcoal used in the work, as an expressive materiality, is also a vestige resulting from the burning and combustion process. Thus, materiality and representation merge as a trace and scar of an event that should not be forgotten.
Finally, this work regains relevance precisely after the recent fire in Viña del Mar, which occurred on December 22, 2022 in the vicinity of Villa Nueva Esperanza, between the Rodelillo aerodrome and Las Palmas, in the upper sector of the Viña commune. del Mar, in Valparaiso. An overwhelming image that is repeated to us as a Chilean society and that requires us to rethink our eco-social ties, and demand new eco-political commitments".

Más información: Esta obra fue realizada en el año 2014 y se exhibió en el Vicente Vargas Estudio, en Valparaíso, Chile, ese mismo año. Luego de permanecer doblada durante varios años, fue adquirida por la Colección Ca.Sa en el año 2020. En el año 2023, la obra participó en el Concurso de Arte Joven de la Municipalidad de Santiago, donde obtuvo el primer lugar en la categoría de dibujo. Como resultado, se exhibió en el Centro Cultural La Moneda (CCLM) desde el 14 de abril hasta el 14 de mayo de 2023.
More information: This artwork was created in the year 2014 and exhibited at Vicente Vargas Studio in Valparaíso, Chile, in the same year. After remaining folded for several years, it was acquired by the Ca.Sa Collection in 2020. In 2023, the artwork participated in the Young Art Contest organized by the Municipality of Santiago, where it won first place in the drawing category. As a result, it was exhibited at the Centro Cultural La Moneda (CCLM) from April 14th to May 14th, 2023.
